Romani E Journal – A Resource for Combating Antiziganism

Welcome to Romani E Journal. With Romani E Journal we seek to combat antiziganism by bringing to you articles that are carefully scrutinized by our review boards. The page entitled RVL (Romani Virtual Library), is an archive of reports, essays, lectures, raw data and studies, in text, video and audio format, and acts as a resource for Romani related material that researchers and students alike can access for their studies or research.

Because antiziganism stems from what we call Romaphobia, which is the fear that grows out of the misconceptions that many have of Roma, we believe that by presenting in articles how those fears came into being, the readership will then learn that the "fear" stems from misconceptions and by that weaken antiziganism.

Why a Scholarly Journal?

Scholars indicate that 500 000 to 1 500 000 Roma were annihilated during the Holocaust. Many such atrocities against Roma and other people have arisen out of fears based on falsehoods. At times those falsehoods have even come about from scholars who had good intentions but lacked knowledge on the Roma people because they lacked access to the community and made conclusions based on the limited information they had. As an example, at times scholars had no more than five informants that acted as the representative voice for all the Roma. As there has been little documentation for such scholars to access in the past, conclusions were drawn often on assumptions and the little documentation they had. To contextualize this, we can compare this to say the French people, their language and culture, and imagine that there were no books, no museum, no films, and no French country, and all we had to learn about these people was that which learned from a few questions we had answers to from five people. This means that a lot of information out there on the Romani people is inaccurate.

Membership & Services

Our major mission with Romani E Journal is to reach students of all ages, and media. Thereby we ask that schools and related institutions become members and pay a membership due at 100-200 sek, per annum, for three numbers, giving access to all students in a school or all staff at an institution. The first year is free and at no charge (click on membership to learn more), the following year paying members will be the only ones able to access articles in Romani E Journal while other services such as the reports and essays archive in RVL (in text, audio & video format), and the book reviews section will not require membership. Also, we have a forum and feedback page, as well as a live chat room. Here, students, scholars, and media, can leave questions related to the Romani subject, and members from our staff can then try their best to answer. Above you will find links with more in depth information about Romani E Journal, antiziganism, and how one may contribute with an article. We are also interested in hearing what you think about what we do at Romani E Journal and ask you to click on the page SURVEY after reading a periodical so that we may know how to make Romani E Journal better in the future.
